Donor Q&A

Tell us about your Dickinson experience.

Our Dickinson experience was wonderful. We made lifelong friends and grew into the people we are today. We particularly enjoyed our study abroad experiences in Australia and South America and our involvement in club soccer and the Dance Theatre Group.

How has Dickinson’s useful liberal-arts education helped you?

The liberal-arts education we received at Dickinson taught us to think critically, analyze problems from different viewpoints and be cognizant of our responsibilities as global citizens. We’ve seen the benefits of this in both our personal and professional lives.

What inspired your gift to Dickinson?

We both feel very lucky to have been able to attend Dickinson and want to do our part to ensure that a quality liberal-arts education is accessible to any student who wishes to pursue it. We have focused our recent gifting on scholarships in the hopes of removing financial barriers to access.

Donors like this fuel Dickinson's Campaign for Scholarships: Change a Life--Change the World. Why is it important to give back to the college?

It’s important for us to give back to the college because we want Dickinson to be able to tackle as many projects and initiatives as possible. We want to help make the college a better place for current and future students while remaining engaged members of the Dickinson community.

How have you volunteered for the college in the years since you graduated?

We both have been part of the Admissions Volunteer Network (AVN), interviewing prospective students in our local area. These interviews allow us to learn more about prospective students while sharing details about our own experiences at Dickinson. Ultimately, we hope this allows prospective students to make as educated of a decision as possible and ensure a good match.

What advice would you give to today’s students?

Be adventurous, and take advantage of all that the campus has to offer. Rarely will you find yourself in a place where you have access to so many resources and others willing to devote their time and knowledge to help you grow and pursue your interests.
