Local company Denim Coffee is opening its newest shop inside a traditional favorite hangout spot on Dickinson's campus. Denim Coffee at the Quarry, located at the corner of North College and West Louther streets, will celebrate its grand opening on Friday, Oct. 28, from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Denim Coffee to campus,” says President John E. Jones III '77, P'11, who plans to stop by the grand opening celebration. “Students, faculty and staff have been eagerly anticipating the opening of this unique coffee shop, and we're looking forward to Denim becoming a part of campus life.”
Denim Coffee at the Quarry will be open to the public seven days a week, from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Hours may be subject to change slightly, as the staff gauges on-campus demand. The menu features Denim’s full coffee and espresso menu as well as smoothies, locally brewed UnDone kombucha, fresh baked goods and breakfast sandwiches.

Denim Coffee traces roots back to 2011, when Matt Ramsay, owner and founder, launched a local roasting business. Within five years, he'd opened a coffee shop on Hanover Street that quickly became a favorite among Dickinson students, faculty and staff. Denim Coffee shops in Chambersburg and Harrisburg soon followed.
The Quarry, a longtime favorite campus eatery and gathering space located centrally on campus, was vacant in recent years, having closed operations during the pandemic. After sampling Denim's coffee, President Jones recognized a good brew—and a prime opportunity for students, faculty and staff to enjoy the Quarry in a new way. He invited Ramsay to bring Denim Coffee to campus last summer, and renovations soon were underway.
Denim Coffee at the Quarry features an eclectic and friendly ambiance that nods to the building's past. There's a thoroughly modern coffee bar with updated water filtration and flooring and a fresh coat of denim-hued paint. The iconic exposed-stone wall remains.
Dickinson meal plan swipes are accepted for payment, along with cash and credit cards. Dickinson Wi-Fi is available.
“The Quarry is a cool building with a lot of history—and it’s a perfect space for a coffee shop,” says Ramsay, noting that the cozy indoor space is augmented by ample outdoor seating, thanks to the building’s wraparound porch and trellis patio. “We’ve been hard at it all summer to make it just right, and we can't wait to officially open our doors."
