On Tuesday, Sept. 20, Dickinson will launch a National Voter Registration Day celebration right in the heart of campus.
The voter registration drive on Britton Plaza will include music, light refreshments, prize giveaways, and an opportunity for students, faculty and staff to learn about the voting process and register to vote on the spot. It will be held from 11:30 to 1 p.m.
National Voter Registration Day has been celebrated every September in the U.S. since its establishment in 2012. Nearly 4.7 million voters have registered to vote through National Voter Registration Day to date. This year’s goal is to register 800,000 new voters nationwide.
Dickinson's National Voter Registration Day event, one of thousands across the nation this year, is hosted by the Office of the President and Dickinson Votes. As President John E. Jones III '77, P'11, noted in a recent email to the campus community, the college has an excellent track record to draw from: The ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge has awarded Dickinson the “Highest Voter Registration” and “Highest Voter Turnout” awards among four-year institutions as part of the Pennsylvania Campus Voting Challenge. And Washington Monthly magazine ranked Dickinson No. 5 in the country on the Student Voting Honor Roll.
“Let’s build on that momentum,” President John E. Jones III '77, P'11, urged, asserting that voting is one of the most important ways we can engage in our communities and effect the change we wish to see in the world. “Please mark your calendars and stop by. And most importantly, make sure to vote.”
