Going for gold

The Kline Fitness Center has achieved LEED Gold status, making it the sixth LEED Gold building on campus and seventh LEED certified project.

LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, has long honored the college for its commitment to innovation and sustainability, having most recently awarded the High Street Residence Hall the council's highest honor: LEED Platinum. It is the only residence hall in the state of Pennsylvania to achieve this.

As one of the college's highest visibility LEED buildings, the Kline Fitness Center offers a unique and refreshing design with operable domed skylights to allow for natural light and fresh air in nice weather. LEED buildings promote healthy design and operation and reward healthy indoor air quality.

"It is particularly appropriate that our fitness center be LEED Gold—since our community uses the building for sustained health and wellness," says Ken Shultes, association vice president for sustainability & facilities planning. "It is also interesting to note that with the recent addition of the High Street Residence Hall and the Kline Fitness Center, we have 250,000-square-feet of LEED certified space on campus about 15 percent of the campus."
