Gloria Victis: The Conservation of Marius-Jean-Antonin Merci茅鈥檚 Bronze Monument to the Fallen

This exhibition celebrates the recent conservation of Marius-Jean-Antonin Merci茅鈥檚 bronze statue of 鈥淕loria Victis,鈥 or 鈥淕lory to the Fallen.鈥 Merci茅 made this statue to honor his fallen countrymen in the Franco-Prussian War. The statue represents a winged allegorical figure of Fame, who carries to glory a dying French soldier, his broken sword a symbol of French defeat. Conservation performed by Meghan Abercrombie 鈥15, working under the direction of conservator Brian Howard.
