Timely and Timeless: Japan's Modern Transformation in Woodblock Prints

This exhibition considers woodblock printmaking in Japan from the age of Hiroshige through the early 20th century. This exhibition is curated by senior art history majors Fiona Clarke, Isabel Figueroa, Mary Emma Heald, Chelsea Kramer, Lilly Middleton, Cece Witherspoon and Adrian Zhang, under the direction of Ren Wei.

This exhibition will feature work by Christopher Hartshorne, a printmaker who utilizes woodcut techniques. The studio art artist-in-residence program is made possible through the gracious support of Sylvia J. Smith, a Dickinson trustee and member of the class of 1973.

The Emil R. and Tamar Weiss Prize in the Creative Arts, established in 1986, is awarded annually to students majoring in English (creative writing emphasis), theatre & dance, art & art history or music. This year’s recipients are composer-pianist Sam Phelps and studio-artist Diane Lee.
Phelps will present Great Awakening, an original oratorio in a contemporary style recounting the Biblical story of the raising of Lazarus. The performance will feature James Martin (baritone), Jennifer Blyth (piano) and Douglas Buchanan (conductor) as well as student singers and guest cellist Lavena Johanson. Lee will screen her Weiss Prize animation, rendered by hand in the digital environment and based on a narrative that explores the impact of time and place on its protagonists.

Tickets are $5; proceeds go to REACH! for ongoing youth programs and scholarships.
Come to a high-energy evening showcasing local youth in multiple facets of the arts. ºìÐÓÖ±²¥app students and REACH! combine forces for the second year of the Fusion 98 Talent Show. Dickinson and REACH! students will collaborate on pieces that showcase their talents in singing, rap, dance, acting and instrumental music. Tickets available at the door.

A one-man puppet show performed by actor, puppeteer and musician Mark Blashford, featuring hand-carved, folk-toy-inspired puppets and live music. The story addresses water conservation and water rights, and is presented in the style of an Appalachian Jack Tale.

Student choreographers collaborate with Dickinson’s student dance company, the Dance Theatre Group (DTG), to present an evening of new choreographic research, on and off the Mathers stage. DTG is under the direction of Sarah Skaggs, director of the dance program, with assistance from Erin Crawley-Woods, visiting assistant professor of dance. Concert presented by the Department of Theatre & Dance and DTG.

The Dickinson Orchestra, under the direction of Peter Brye, joins the College Choir for a performance of Fauré’s serene Requiem. The concert also features the winners of the Student Concerto Competition, Uyen Dam and Shourya Kishorepuria, playing Poulenc Concerto in D minor for Two Pianos.
