Angels in America: Millennium Approaches

The Department of Theatre and Dance presents Tony Kushner’s 1993 Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winning play Angels in America: Millennium Approaches Nov. 1st and 2nd at 7pm and Nov. 3rd at 2pm.  Directed by Karen Lordi-Kirkham with guest designers Trui Malten and Jojo Siu, Millennium is part one of two stories that portrays the intersecting stories of a diverse group of Americans during the early days of the AIDS epidemic.  Considered one of the most pivotal dramas of the last century, Angels weaves political, social, religious, cultural and historical themes culminating in a message of love and hope for the future as relevant today as when it was written.
CONTENT ADVISORY: This play contains mature language, racial and ableist slurs, references to explicit sexual situations, and depictions of violence, and of illness and death.

Assembly:Required

Assembly:Required is an immersive, site-specific dance event that takes the audience on a journey through the Goodyear Art Building. Echoes of the building’s past as a women’s shoe factory mingle with the current buzz of a thriving studio art facility. Choreographers Matt Reeves and Colette Krogol  of and Lecturer in Dance Erin Crawley-Woods weave dynamic movement through the architecture of the space as it pulsates with a new original musical score by composer .  Designed by Professor Kent Barrett and Juli Bounds and performed by the daring students of Dance Theatre Group, Assembly:Required is a one-of-a-kind collaboration between the Department of Theatre + Dance and the Studio Art Program.

Please note:  This is a standing performance. There are two flights of stairs to access the performance. Bathroom access is limited. Please see campus map here. The performance will be in Goodyear (#64 on map). There's street parking and limited parking behind the building - however we would advise you park next to Anita Tuvin Schlechter Auditorium (#19 on map) and walk the 1.5 blocks to Goodyear.

Future Anxiety
by Laurel Haines

In this fiercely intelligent and wildly conceivable vision of the apocalypse, Future Anxiety follows a new generation trying to make sense of how to live on a planet with increasingly drained resources and suspect inhabitants. Things we take for granted are in short supply — toilet paper’s doled out one square at a time. Violent storms rack the sky interrupted by fires broad as the horizon — shades of today’s news of tornadoes and fires. Radioactivity everywhere is a given. Unfortunately, the planet has become uninhabitable. Fortunately, Karl has built a spaceship.
