"The Tempest" is a tragicomic romance play. Pospero is ruined socially by his brother and marooned on an island with his young daughter. His character masters the spirits of the island, enslaves Caliban and punishes all parties that are shipwrencked and blown ashore. In the end, his desire for vengence at the ones who punished him are abandoned as he makes plans to sail back to Italy restored to his title; Duke of Milan through the love of his daughter.
