Don't miss the Dickinson Orchestra's fall 2024 concert.
The Dickinson Orchestra, under the direction of Ryan Kozak, is excited to present Symphonic Pictures featuring “Pohjola's Daughter” by Jean Sibelius, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 1 "Winter Daydreams," and Elgar’s Sea Pictures, featuring mezzo-soprano Ann Fogler ’15.
Sibelius' "Pohjola's Daughter" tells the story of Väinämöinen and his attempt to court the beautiful "Daughter of the North" (Pohjola). After succeeding at many of the tasks she sets out for him to do, he is eventually thwarted, gives up and proceeds to finish his journey alone. Elgar's Sea Pictures is a set of 5 songs with lyrics by different poets. Each song tells a story, related in some way to the sea. Lastly, Tchaikovsky's First Symphony provides a programmatic title for both his first and second movements and uses a well-known folk song to finish the work.
Admission is free, but reservations are required. Please use this to RSVP.
