Stephanie Kreiner’s ’03 Story
Stephanie was a women’s lacrosse student-athlete and field hockey manager as well as a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and the biology department. In 2004, after a night of celebration, Steph and her friends decided that their night out was over, and it was time to go home. They made the right decision to walk home and not drink and drive. Tragically, Steph was hit by a drunk driver while crossing a parking lot and passed away from her injuries. Steph’s best friend, Amy Rankin ’03, was also injured in the accident but thankfully survived.
Steph’s all too short life has many lessons that we can learn from – and remember not just today but every day. She teaches us to strive to do important things with our lives and make a difference in the world. She teaches us to take advantage of the opportunities we have as a part of the Dickinson community. She teaches us to use those opportunities to give back to the college and the people we come to know and love here. She teaches us that the decision to never drink and drive, or allow our friends to, is always the right decision. Sadly, her story has taught us that when the wrong decision is made it can cost precious lives.
