Health Insurance
Health Services does not bill insurance companies for charges, but provides an itemized receipt upon check-out so these charges may be submitted to your insurance carrier.
Students should have their insurance card with them while at college. Costs for medical care provided by local medical facilities or specialists are the students' responsibility. Most billing offices will submit a claim to insurance on the student's behalf. However, students should be ready to pay the co-payment at the time of visit, if it is required by their insurance company. Many offices will not send a bill home to parents for the co-pay.
If you belong to a Managed Care network such as a Health Maintenance Organization (HMO), you must notify them of the visit and charges by phone within a certain time (usually 24 hours) in order to be reimbursed for the expense. Each insurance carrier is different, so you should familiarize yourself with your companies' guidelines for notification and reimbursement.
