Our Professional Development Awards are designed to support students along their career readiness pathway by providing financial assistance for a variety of career development activities.
Job Shadowing: Spend a day or more observing professionals in your field of interest to gain a deeper understanding of the day-to-day responsibilities and workplace culture.
Professional Conference: Attend industry conferences to learn about the latest trends, network with professionals, and explore potential career paths.
Networking Events: Participate in events that connect you with alumni and other professionals who can offer guidance and mentorship.
Certifications and Skills Training: Obtain certifications or complete training programs that enhance your qualifications and make you a more competitive candidate in the job market.
We understand that career preparedness is not a one-size-fits-all approach. Our Professional Development Awards are just one of the many ways we support our students in becoming nimble, polished, and ready professionals, no matter where their career journeys take them.
All current students at Dickinson are eligible to apply for Professional Development Awards. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, and students are encouraged to apply early to maximize their chances of receiving funding. Students can receive a maximum of $750 per award for professional experiences that occur prior to their graduation date. Requests must be submitted at least 30 days prior to the experience date. This fund does not cover expenses related to tuition, education abroad, research, or internships. (Alternate funding sources may be available for specific opportunities not covered by this fund, such as Summer Internship Grants or Kenderdine Student Travel for research. Students should contact their advisor to discuss.)
The application process is straightforward and requires students to outline their proposed activities and how these will contribute to their career goals.
For Students:
Step 1: request for Career Development Funding. Reach out to your Career Pathway Advisor if you have questions or need assistance.
Step 2: Participate in your professional development activity.
Step 3: to share what you’ve learned and submit final documentation of your experience.
The Professional Development Awards are just one of the many resources that the Center for Career Development provides to help students gain specialized knowledge and experiences that complement their liberal arts education. By participating in these activities, students can take full advantage of opportunities to build professional networks, gain valuable insights into their chosen fields, and be inspired while shaping their unique career paths.
