Kathryn Hickey, Environmental Science and Psychology majors with a Food Studies Certificate
Kathryn Hickey '24 is an Environmental Science and Psychology double major with a Food Studies Certificate from Oradell, NJ. She is passionate about environmental education, proper waste management, food security, and sustainable behavior change, especially in terms of reducing wasted food.
Kathryn is an active Dickinsonian. She is the Biogas Education and Outreach Coordinator at the ºìÐÓÖ±²¥app Farm. In this role, she educates K-12 students about the process of anaerobic digestion of food scraps and its production of biogas. She has another job as one of the Psychology Department Assistants, running the social media pages and producing the end-of-the-year newsletter. She is also one of the house managers at Treehouse, a special interest house on campus devoted to environmental and social sustainability. Between her sophomore and junior year, she studied abroad in Italy to learn about how various bioregions utilize the environment in their cuisine. In her free time, she enjoys crocheting, hiking, singing in the ºìÐÓÖ±²¥app Choir, and educating peers about sustainable events and initiatives on campus as an Eco-Rep.
Kathryn is honored to have been chosen as a 2023 Baird Sustainability Fellow and thankful for the opportunity to work alongside the other 2023 Baird Sustainability Fellows and Neil Leary on the Climate Resilience Assessment for Carlisle and Cumberland County. She is excited to continue her journey in life and work towards a more resilient world which values people, the planet, and prosperity.
