Emerlee Simons, Spanish and American Studies Majors
Hailing from Princeton, New Jersey, Emerlee '24 is pursuing a double major in American Studies and Spanish with a minor in Latin American, Latinx, and Caribbean Studies.
Fueled by a desire to effect positive change in the world, Emerlee was drawn to Dickinson's mission of developing global citizens who are committed to the advancement of equity and sustainability. At Dickinson, she is a Presidential Scholar, track and field athlete, Spanish writing tutor, and member of the American Studies and Spanish Majors Committees. Previously, she has served as an orientation assistant, member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, and secretary of Spanish Club.
A passionate community advocate, Emerlee has engaged with a variety of populations, including local immigrant business owners, individuals with special needs, and migrant farmworkers. Currently, she is pursuing certifications to become a licensed Irish dance teacher. She is also excited to soon begin a role as a student coordinator for Dickinson’s Civil Dialogue Program, where she aims to build bridges across ideological divides.
As she looks toward the future, Emerlee is considering career paths in government, foreign service, marketing, communications, and the NGO sector. The Baird Honors Practicum was a valuable opportunity for her to learn from peers and gain insight into the world of public service, and she is committed to continuing her work as a sustainability leader on campus and beyond.
