2021 Baird Sustainability Fellows

Robin Okunowo, Philosophy and Environmental Studies Majors

Robin Okunowo, 2021 Baird Sustainability Fellow

Robin Okunowo is a double major in Environmental Studies and Philosophy at ºìÐÓÖ±²¥app from Atlanta, GA.  She chose these two majors because they conjoin at the perfect intersection of her passions for environmental justice. Her time at Dickinson has been directed towards understanding environmental issues and their connection to social justice. Robin is passionate about social issues and understands that climate justice is social justice.

Following her freshman year, she attended the Ethnographic Field School in Tanzania where she got to participate in anthropological research and conduct her own research concerning climate change in rural southwest Tanzania. After this, she served as an intern in the Center for Sustainability Education as the marketing and outreach intern. This allowed her to explore the intersectionality between sustainability on Dickinson’s campus and the ways that it could be expanded into other areas on campus. Further, she had the opportunity to serve as a Project Intern at the Captain Planet Foundation. She was given the opportunity to work on the Ocean Heroes Project and develop toolkits and educational packets for young environmental activists interested in tackling the issue of ocean plastics. Robin is excited for the Baird Honors Program to further her interdisciplinary study of sustainability and applying her knowledge to real world issues.
