Amelia Lufrano, Environmental Studies Major and Food Studies Certificate
Amelia is from Montclair, NJ. She is an Environmental Studies major with a Food Studies certificate and is a student farmer at the ºìÐÓÖ±²¥app Farm. During her sophomore year, Amelia led a service trip to New Orleans. She also volunteered with the Farm’s youth program, “Farm, Cook, Eat” at LeTort Elementary School. Outside of Dickinson, Amelia has extensive experience working with children and educating them about farming and sustainability.
Amelia studied at the School for Field Studies in Siem Reap, Cambodia where she conducted field research and learned about climate change, ethics, and conservation. This experience allowed her to combine her passion for Buddhist practice with environmental studies in order to explore the role that spirituality plays within sustainable development.
During the summer of 2020, Amelia interned at two community farms in Northern New Jersey. She worked on all aspects of food production from seeding and planting to harvesting. She also helped distribute fresh, organic produce at an affordable price to senior citizens and those most affected by COVID-19.
Amelia is honored to be chosen as a 2021 Baird Sustainability Fellow and is excited to work with the other Fellows to address various issues of sustainability.
