Giuseppe Collia, Environmental Studies and Spanish Majors, Italian Minor and Food Studies Certificate

Giuseppe Collia, Baird FellowGiuseppe Collia is a senior pursuing Environmental Studies and Spanish Majors, an Italian Minor, and a Food Studies certificate.  Prior to Dickinson, he graduated from the Milton Hershey School, a free, private, residential school in Hershey, Pennsylvania for students from low-income backgrounds.

Giuseppe has been involved in sustainability at Dickinson since his first day on campus, participating in a Sustainable Pre-Orientation Adventure, later leading him to volunteer as an Eco-Rep (a peer educator of sustainability in his residence hall), and as an apprentice and intern with the Center for Sustainability Education focusing mainly on waste minimization and diversion, coordinating a campus-wide energy challenge, and exploring the field of environmental consulting. 

Giuseppe spent a month in Cuenca, Ecuador for intensive Spanish-language courses before heading to Mendoza, Argentina to enroll directly in the National University of Cuyo (UNCuyo), living with a host family in both cities.  He also taught English at an institute and joined a board game club during his time in Mendoza, fully immersing himself in the local culture.

Giuseppe continues to pursue other sustainability endeavors as the Romance Languages House manager, a supervisor with Dining Services, the Reflection Practices and Emerging Engagement Projects Coordinator with the Center for Civic Learning and Action, and sitting on the Steering Committee of the Center for Sustainability Education.

 

Giuseppe aims to combine his interests in sustainability, language learning, and cultural studies in through international environmental consulting or sustainable development.  He is honored to have been chosen for this program and is excited to spend the semester sharing with and learning from the other Fellows.
