Kayla Simpson, Biology Major
Kayla Simpson '18
Kayla Simpson is pursuing a Biology major, with a focus in ecology. Originally hailing from Falmouth, MA, she chose Dickinson in part due to its strong commitment to sustainability. During her undergraduate education, Kayla has explored concepts of sustainability both on campus and abroad. She has conducted multiple research projects on species as diverse as snakes, toads, and dung beetles while using the ºìÐÓÖ±²¥app Farm as a living laboratory. Currently she is working on her honors thesis, seeking to manage horn fly populations at the college farm through the use of natural pesticides without impacting the beneficial populations of dung beetles that are present. While abroad, Kayla studied wildlife management in the context of community conservation in Tanzania as well as climatology in Denmark.
When not identifying dung beetles, Kayla can be found giving tours with Admissions or playing ultimate frisbee with the Jive Turkeys, of which she is the women’s team president. Additionally, she works with the Center for Global Studies and Engagement promoting study abroad opportunities for STEM students as a Global Ambassador.
