Carrie Gillespie, Biology and Philosophy Majors

Baird Sustainability Fellows 2018

Carrie Gillespie '18

Carrie Gillespie, is a Biology and Philosophy double major from a small suburb of Boston called Holliston. On campus, she is a service trip leader, a student researcher in the biology department, a first-year mentor, sings in the college choir, and has been employed by the ºìÐÓÖ±²¥app Farm since her first year. The college farm has been one of her favorite parts about Dickinson because it has provided a space to learn about and enjoy sustainable agricultural practices that she plans to implement in her life after Dickinson.

Carrie enjoys learning about sustainable practices in contexts beyond just environmental, specifically in the realm of social change. She conducted research on ocean acidification at Friday Harbor Laboratories this past summer and learned a great deal about climate change in a research setting. With an aspiring career in medicine, Carrie plans to incorporate environmentally and socially sustainability practices in to her work and daily life after Dickinson. She looks forward to learning about the various meanings and applications of sustainability through participation in the Baird Colloquium this coming semester.
