Max Egener, 2016 Baird Sustainability Fellow

Max Egener '16

Max Egener is an Environmental Science major and an English minor from Portland, Oregon. Max is interested in science communication and the ways in which literature has the power to inspire, persuade, and shape how people think about their environments. Growing up backpacking and skiing in the Pacific Northwest, Max has always felt compelled to understand how the natural world functions. Max is currently researching how the increasing frequency of extreme rain events in the central Pennsylvania region is affecting the ecology of three reservoirs near Dickinson. His interest in lake and reservoir ecology took Max to Greenland in the summer of 2015 where he aided in a field expedition focused on collecting ecological data from Greenland lakes. Since then, Max has become fascinated with writing about field research and the people who do it.

During his semester abroad in Copenhagen, Max studied Arctic climate change and Denmark’s sustainable initiatives in renewable energy and food systems. Max’s involvement in aquatic sciences and activism began by working for the Alliance for Aquatic Resource Monitoring for three semesters. Max has now been a resident in the Treehouse Center for Sustainable Living for a year.
