2016 Baird Sustainability Fellow

Lyndsey Tanabe, Environmental Science and Biology

Lyndsey Tanabe, 2016 Baird Sustainability Fellow

Lyndsey Tanabe '16

Lyndsey Tanabe is pursuing a double major in Environmental Science and Biology at Dickinson.  She applied to college with the intention of pursing a medical career, but her experiences at Dickinson have led her to follow her passion for marine conservation. She studied Marine Resource Management in Turks and Caicos and Wildlife Management in Tanzania during her junior year.  Opportunities abroad allowed her to conduct research on sustainable harvesting of food, and sparked her interest in sustainability issues.  In the summer of 2015, Lyndsey was awarded the Hollings Scholarship through the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) which allowed her to conduct field research in Maui.  Her project was located within a National Marine Sanctuary, where she assessed biodiversity and abundance of macro-invertebrates and algae.

As a student at ºìÐÓÖ±²¥app, Lyndsey is an employee for the Alliance for Aquatic Resource Monitoring (ALLARM) where she works closely with the Carlisle community to educate residents about stormwater issues.  She also is a campus tour guide, Global Ambassador at the Center for Global Studies and Engagement, President of the Photography Club, and member of the Phoenix Volunteer Organization.  In her free time she enjoys traveling, scuba diving, hiking, and photography.  Her experience at Dickinson has opened up new interests, and she is looking forward to developing a greater understanding of sustainability with the likeminded students during the Baird Colloquium.
