Sara Tyberg, Sociology Major and East Asian Studies Minor

Sara Tyberg, 2016 Baird Sustainability Fellow

Sara Tyberg '16

Sara Tyberg is majoring in sociology, minoring in East Asian studies, and completing the health studies certificate program. Through Dickinson, Sara has explored her interests in social sustainability and community preservation via her contributions to the LGBT History Project of Central Pennsylvania as an intern for the ºìÐÓÖ±²¥app Archives & Special Collections. She engages in her passion for women’s health by teaching sexual health education on campus as a PALS peer educator. She has also spent the past three summers in Japan on various study abroad programs. While overseas, she traveled widely to study the social and geological impacts of natural disasters, conducted comparative research on the health and wellness of older adults in Northern Japan, and immersed herself in Japanese language and culture through the Akita International University partner program in spring 2015. Volunteering for two weeks in Belize, building local gardens and teaching basic lessons about environmental and social sustainability, was one of Sara’s most memorable experiences throughout her undergraduate career.

After graduation, Sara aspires to utilize her skills at a non-profit organization or social science think tank that explores community issues relating to gender, health, identity, and/or the body. As a Baird Sustainability Fellow, she is looking forward to a semester full of engaging collaboration and meaningful discussion amongst this diverse group of Dickinsonians.
