Cooling the Curriculum

Enhancing Interdisciplinary Climate Education

Dickinson received a $486,919 grant from NASA in 2009 for "Cooling the Liberal Arts Curriculum - A Campaign for Climate Change Education." The campaign, led by ºìÐÓÖ±²¥app faculty, is enhancing capacity for interdisciplinary teaching about climate change science, consequences and policy at Dickinson and other colleges and universities. Activities of the campaign include faculty workshops, development and sharing of educational materials for teaching about climate change, and grants to Dickinson faculty for teaching, professional development, and student-faculty research projects.

Partners in the project include four community colleges with which Dickinson has articulation agreements - Harrisburg Area Community College, Montgomery College (MD), Montgomery County Community College (PA), and Northampton Community College - as well as the Center for Climate System Research and the Earth Institute of Columbia University. The impact of the campaign reached well beyond the implementing institutions. 178 educators from 60 colleges and universities, representing more than 20 academic disciplines, participated in the professional development activities of the project.
