The Department of Sociology encourages majors to study abroad—both in the U.S. and overseas—as experience within communities other than one’s own can be an excellent way to learn as a student of sociology.
The sociology curriculum at Dickinson is designed with the hope and expectation that all of our students spend a semester or full year abroad. Many of our student spend part or all of their junior year abroad—either in one of Dickinson’s own programs, with a partner program or as part of a Mosaic. Many sociology majors study in Copenhagen, Denmark, and we have had majors studying at universities all over the world, including China, France, and Australia.
