Global DEI for International Students

Global DEI for International Students

International students at Dickinson

International students at Dickinson are central to what makes Dickinson a global campus and community. They are not a monolithic group and hail from over 40 countries on six continents with a myriad of backgrounds and experiences: some are dual nationals, some have gone to high school in the U.S., and some come to the U.S. for the very first time when they arrive for first-year orientation. They come to Dickinson looking to find a place where they can belong and thrive and we in the Center for Global Study and Engagement are here to support them on that journey.

Staff within the CGSE are weaving together intercultural learning/DEI through the cocurricular experience of all of our students while at the same time recognizing when international students need more specialized support and training. We have done this work in close partnership with our colleagues in the Multi-lingual Writing Center, Student Life and Engagement and the Office of Equity and Inclusivity. As we develop a deeper understanding of how global systematic issues of inequity are playing out in the U.S. and in particular in the experiences of our international students, we get better at supporting our international students in finding their place at Dickinson.
