Faculty Fellows

ºìÐÓÖ±²¥app faculty benefit from having conversations across the disciplines about teaching and learning issues that impact students’ academic experience. Those who would like to lead such conversations and take a deep dive into a pedagogical area of interest should consider becoming a CTLS Faculty Fellow.

The CTLS is looking for its first two Faculty Fellows to begin in Fall 2024. Tenured, tenure-line, and other continuing faculty are eligible to apply. This two-year position would enable you to have ongoing connection to the CTLS as you explore an evidence-based pedagogy that could lead to a new course, or a targeted assessment with recommendations, or a conference presentation or a publication, among many others. 

How to Apply
  • Choose a pedagogical question(s) or topic area(s) that you want to explore (see below for suggestions). 
  • Submit a complete proposal form by March 18. 
  • You will receive $4600 per year as a stipend or as a course release (with the exception of FYS). 
What Is Expected of You
  • You will attend monthly meetings of the CTLS directors and the Teaching & Learning Subcommittee of APSC.
  • You will meet regularly with the director.
  • You will offer 1-2 professional development activities, based on your topic, per semester.
  • You will assist with with faculty consultations and/or classroom observations. 
  • You will produce a new course, or a targeted assessment with recommendations, or a conference presentation or a publication, or some other output of your choosing by the end of your term. 
What Topics You Could Propose
In short, you could propose any pedagogical question or topic. It would be helpful, though, to choose something that is transferable to other disciplines. Here are some possibilities: 
  • Academic integrity 
  • Anti-racist or decolonial pedagogies
  • Collaborative learning
  • Dialoguing across differences
  • Discussion for large courses (30+ students)
  • Effective formative feedback
  • Effective lecturing
  • Embodied or affective pedagogy
  • Equity-minded grading
  • Experiential, community, or project-based learning
  • Games-based or role-play pedagogy
  • Inquiry-based learning
  • Learner-centered teaching
  • Metacognition
  • Self-directed learning
  • Student engagement for large courses (30+ students)
  • Team teaching
  • Trauma-informed teaching
  • Universal design for learning

How Proposals will be Assessed

Faculty Fellows will be notified by March 22. These are the criteria used to assess proposals: 

  • Your responses directly address the questions in the proposal and reflect thoughtful consideration. 
  • Your pedagogical goals align with your proposed project. 
  • Your answers are 2-3 solid paragraphs long. 
How the CTLS will Support You

The CTLS will provide the following support for the work of the faculty fellows: 

  • assistance with designing effective faculty development activities;
  • a community of educational developers who can support your project;
  • logistical and administrative support.
