Accommodation Request Process

Process for Disclosing and Documenting a Disability to Support a Request for Accommodation(s)

Step 1: Submit your "Disability Disclosure and Request for Accommodations" form through CLIQ's Forms Center.

This form is to be completed by the student and it's important for you to provide ADS with comprehensive information about the access barriers you have experienced. Incoming first-year students should submit this by the end of May to ensure that any eligible accommodations are determined, discussed with you, and set up by the fall semester. That said, ADS will accept and process accommodation requests made throughout the year.

Once the form is submitted, you will receive an auto-generated email from access@dickinson.edu with next steps, including this important link to our Guidelines for Documenting a Disability

Step 2: Submit appropriate documentation of your disability.

This should be done:

  • For ACADEMIC Accommodations:
    • in June, to have accommodations in place by the start of the Fall Semester, and
    • in October to have accommodations in place by the Spring semester.

Documentation may be submitted to Access and Disability Services (ADS) by any of the following means:

  • Fax: 717-254-8139
  • Email: access@dickinson.edu
  • US Mail: Access and Disability Services, ºìÐÓÖ±²¥app, P.O. Box 1773, Carlisle, PA 17013-2896

Step 3: Your request form and documentation will be reviewed to determine eligibility for any accommodations.

Please note that sufficient time is required to review all documentation and engage in the interactive process of determining reasonable and appropriate accommodations. It's possible that you will be asked to provide additional documentation or that a consultation with an evaluator will be necessary before a decision can be made. It is important for all students requesting accommodations to check their Dickinson email accounts for any communications from ADS and to follow up as needed.  For accommodation requests made during the semester, you should receive notification of the accommodations for which you are eligible within 6 weeks.

  • Students determined to be eligible for housing or dietary accommodations will receive an email from John Joyce, Associate Director of ADS, notifying them of the accommodations granted.
  • Students who are granted academic accommodations will receive an email about scheduling a conversation to discuss potential accommodations and the full process for setting up academic accommodations.

If you have any questions about the status of your documentation process or about the status of your request for accommodations, please email access@dickinson.edu, or call us at 717-245-1734.
